Scottish youth football, supporting Rwandan youth football
Taking 3x groups of Scottish youth footballers (age 16+) to Rwanda each year, along with experienced youth coaches
Setting up, managing and funding Karongi Football Academy, to support the development of grassroots youth football in one the World’s most deserving nations
“Daunting, unknown, challenging, emotional, exciting, rewarding, amazing, something everyone needs to do in their life!”
An incredible experience for any young footballer or coach, volunteering to make a difference
Experience of a lifetime
An overused phrase sometimes, but these trips truly are the experience of a lifetime for the youths and coaches involved - many choose to return.
Rwanda has a history that we can only shake our heads at in disbelief and horror, and it has crippling levels of child poverty. Yet the people you’ll meet show an incredible resilience, grace and friendliness - it changes your perspective on what really matters in life
"I'm so grateful for my experience in Rwanda. The trip offered me a new perspective on life, shifting my understanding in ways I hadn't anticipated, and it has genuinely changed me.
Despite being on the same planet, Rwanda feels like an entirely different world compared to Scotland. From what I witnessed, Rwanda is undoubtedly one of the most deserving countries in the world, filled with resilience and hope that deeply touched my heart. I already have a sense of longing.”
What’s Involved?
Over 10 days a group of 16 youth players and 6 experienced youth coaches will organise football sessions for kids of all ages and abilities, from our own Karongi Football Academy to street rescue children and primary schools.
Mornings are spent soaking up the local culture, from safari to genocide memorials, craft markets to boat trips
