Ayr Utd’s Clare Docherty appointed Trustee of Scottish Football for Rwanda

Following her second trip to the East African nation in October, Clare Docherty, Head of Academy at Ayr United Women & Girls, has been appointed a Trustee of the Scottish SCIO.

Clare recently retired as a player, with 259 goals over 8 seasons for Ayr, 2 Scotland caps and time with Celtic, Rangers and Kilmarnock.

Her first trip to Rwanda came in June 2025, and had such an impact on her that she signed up immediately for the October trip and also organised a trip next summer for 17 Ayr United youth players.

Her main focus as Trustee will be to develop opportunities for women and girls in football in Rwanda, specifically though the recently launched Karongi Football Academy, which we believe to be the only Girls football academy in Rwanda

Clare will also aim to strengthen the link between Scottish Girl & Women footballers and their Rwandan counterparts.
